Crozet Wedding: Gennie + Chris (Part II)

So it completely made my day to show you the first addition of Gennie and Chris’ colorful and rustic wedding at Montfair Resort Farm, so you can imagine my excitement to show you Part II! This wedding was all about color meeting natural beauty, and it all came together perfectly! Just check out this mountain view….

I just love this next picture because of the way Gennie’s mother-in-law is looking at her with such adoration and joy.

Mr. and Mrs.!!!

Good grief, Gennie, you are such a natural beauty!

Here comes the wedding party….

I love Gennie’s sunflower theme – it was the perfect flower for the warm, summer afternoon and fit perfectly with her personality!

Even the flower girl decided to show off some of her moves on the dance floor….

Gennie and Chris: Thank you for letting us be a part of your special day. We felt so privileged to be able to document your story. We wish you a lifetime of love, compassion and joy!

Crozet Wedding: Gennie + Chris

I am so excited to be blogging on this beautiful, fall Saturday morning. I’m sitting at our new kitchen table with a cup of Irish breakfast tea, looking out at our backyard, watching the squirrels nibble on acorns and jump fearlessly from tree to tree.  I typically save weekends just for shooting, but I just couldn’t wait any longer to show you some of these images from Gennie and Chris’ beautiful wedding at Montfair Resort Farms.

Gennie and Chris just have this ease about their relationship. The way they look at each other, the way that Gennie smiles at Chris, the way Chris reaches out to hold Gennie’s hand, it’s just easy and real. Maybe it’s because they have known each other since kindergarden or because they’ve created this little world between them filled with inside jokes, gentleness and care, but all I know is that it just feels right watching the two of them together.

This is the first time we’ve shot a wedding at Montfair Resort Farms, and there’s just something about the natural, rustic ambiance that John and I loved and thought fit perfectly with Chris and Gennie’s overall wedding style.

Isn’t Gennie the cutest bride, or what?!

This is the breathtaking view from the back porch of the reception lodge. I mean who wouldn’t want to get married here??!!

What is it about bustles?? Gennie’s bustle was being particularly stubborn, but she was in good hands. Her bridesmaids were determined to win the battle!

Chris and his guys lookin’ so sharp.

Gennie, you are absolutely stunning!

I love the bright colors Gennie chose for her girls and the coordinating polos for the guys!

I just loved the look of these lanterns hanging from the trees. I thought it would be a great spot of some portraits of Gennie and her girls. And once we got down there we discovered this great light…

Gennie and I both loved the look of this old barn door, and she gives it the perfect feminine touch!

Check back soon for the rest of Gennie and Chris’ fabulous Montfair Farms wedding, full of details and dancing! Have a great weekend!

Charlottesville Portrait Session: Josh

Do you ever have one of those weeks when Monday seems like months ago? It’s not been a bad week, just busy, but I was thinking about what I did on Monday, and I could barely remember! This past weekend was also eventful with a wedding on Saturday (more on that later!) and then a trip to Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall (or the DM as my friend Jen likes to call it) for a senior portrait session with one of my favorite former students, Josh.

Josh is totally unflappable. He’s just so easy-going, level-headed and completely easy to be with. John and I had a great time just walking around the Mall talking with Josh about his senior year, soccer, college, Flight of the Conchords, how it can be awkward to have 300 pictures taken of you, and whatever else. He was a great sport as I had him stand and sit in front of dozens of random doors and walls, down alleys and in trees. Speaking of random (and totally awesome) doors…..

I was like a kid in a candy store with all the colors and textures of the buildings. I’m thinking Josh looks pretty sharp as well.:-)

Don’t railroad tracks make for great senior pics!? I love how your eyes are just drawn to the lines.

Well, that’s all for now, folks. Thanks for stopping by the blog. Josh, it was great to hang out with you for a bit. Have a great senior year!

Ok, now these pics have reached a new height. The walls and doors really added a creative dimension and so cool. I loved them. You’ll need to poke around C’ville for more antiquated backdrops. I could see weddings dresses in the forefront too.

Keswick Portrait Session: Brittany

Meet Brittany: high school senior, actress, Spanish-speaker extraordinaire (I can vouch for this because I actually taught her for two years!), dancer, singer, and all around rockstar. **I think I can now officially add model to this list. But this is just a sampling of what Brittany does, which only scratches the surface of who she is. What I love about photography is that I don’t have to rack my brain for the perfect words. The images can communicate so much more authentically the essence and soul of the person. I think you’ll know what I mean when you see these pictures from our “I can’t believe I get to call this my job” senior portrait shoot.

First of all, I just loved Brittany’s color choices. So bright and cheery and they just looked great against her summer tan.

Own it….

Drop. Dead. Gorgeous.

1st place: eyes. 2nd place: elephant ring!

We had so much fun exploring the beautiful grounds of Keswick Hall. What an amazing venue with so much variety. Note to self – more portrait sessions at Keswick.:-)

Wow. So, Brittany, no tengo palabras. You are beautiful, both inside and out. (I know, so cheesy, but it’s true!)

Queen Brittany.

I think this one might be my favorite. I don’t know. It’s so hard to pick!

Brittany, what an honor to spend the afternoon with you! You are truly a gem and I’m so glad that I have another year with you before you’re off to college! Don’t forget to come and visit.:-)

Charlottesville Portrait Session: Allie

One of the things I love about summer is that it’s the time of year when we do most of our traveling, either visiting new places or going to visit with friends and family members who we haven’t seen in some time. Last week my cousins, Mark and Allie, took the train down from Maryland to spend a few days with us in Charlottesville. I had not seen them in seven years and John had never met them, so it was a great opportunity for them to meet and for me catch up with them after so much time apart!

The other exciting part of this trip was that we managed to squeeze in a senior portrait session for Miss Allie. This was particularly special for me because I have known Allie since she was a baby, and Allie is also a very gifted photographer and hopes to pursue it as a career one day. So off we went to The Boar’s Head one afternoon, and despite the oppressive heat, got some great shots and had a great time together. (Mark, you also deserve a shot out for waiting so patiently for us and humoring me with some pictures).

I love how Allie’s whole face lights up when she laughs.

Allie really wanted to take pictures under this weeping willow. I just love the look of joy on her face!

That’s right, Allie. Go on and be gorgeous on that rock….do your thang….

Allie, I know I’m biased, but you are simply gorgeous, stunning, sweet, funny, intelligent, thoughtful, dear, talented….

Allie, lots of love and I hope you have a great senior year! Everyone else, thank you for stopping by the blog. Enjoy your Friday and have a great weekend!
