San Diego Engagement | Juliana + Kyle

I still remember the call like it was yesterday. I had just pulled up to the house and heard the familiar ring of my cell phone. I looked down and saw that it was my sister. I answered. “Hi Ju”. “Hey, Nat. Guess what?” “What?” I replied. “I have a date tonight”. Now this was Valentine’s Day weekend, so something told me this wasn’t just going to be any old date. “Who’s the guy?!” My interest was peeked. “His name is Kyle.” Long pause. “And??” I retorted impatiently. “I really like him”. An ear to ear smile swept across my face. Somehow I knew this guy was going to be a game changer. What I couldn’t have predicted was that a year and a half later, I would be in San Diego taking their engagement pictures. As a photographer and Juliana’s older sister, I couldn’t have been more proud or honored.

Juliana and Kyle wanted their engagement pictures taken around San Diego’s iconic Balboa Park. As kids, our parents took us to Balboa Park almost every weekend. It’s a beautiful place full of memories and significance for our family.

I am well aware that, besides our mother, I am the most biased person to make any comments here, but you guys are too cute for words!!:-)

Love these next two shots in black and white.

Ju, I know we’ve said this a million times, but you should wear that color every day.

Lookin’ sharp, Kyle. Hold on to that personal shopper of yours.:-)

Quick outfit change and we were off!

Wow. I love these individual shots of you guys. I see some cute kiddos in your future. ūüėČ

Kyle, you did a GREAT job.

Juliana and Kyle: I cannot tell you what an honor and joy it was to meet you in San Diego for this special occasion. Kyle, I’m so glad that I got to see you before you left. We’re praying for you! We love you both and can’t wait for the wedding!!

Morgan + Michael, Part Two | Charlottesville, VA

Welcome back to Part Two of Morgan and Michael’s beautiful Charlottesville wedding! After the ceremony at the UVA chapel, we headed across town to Farmington Country Club, a gorgeous Charlottesville destination for golfers and wedding goers alike. From the beautiful view of the golf course and surrounding mountains, to the iconic Jefferson Room, and the chandelier clad ballroom , everything about Farmington exudes elegance and classic style. Upon arrival, Morgan, Michael and the entire bridal party were ushered in by Morgan’s grandfather.

It really was such an emotional moment.

After the performance, everyone enjoyed the cocktail hour outside on the lawn and the adjoining terrace.

Of course, we had to take advantage of the beautiful afternoon light and the stunning view.

Back inside the ballroom, the tables were adorned with gorgeous peony arrangements (hats off to Pat’s Floral Design for all the flowers) and delicious spreads of food.

Thanks to SC Fusion for keeping the party hopping all night long!

Morgan’s younger brother provided some great musical accompaniment to her father’s toast and slideshow.

Yes, we were all in stitches!

Morgan and Michael take to the floor for their first dance.

Morgan dances with her father.

Then Michael and his mother were up next.

After the formal dances, it was time to cut the cake! Farmington did a fantastic job with this beauty.

Morgan surprised Michael by singing Etta James’ At Last during the reception. Morgan, you have a beautiful voice. I know Michael was (and always will be!) absolutely smitten.:-)

While everyone was dancing, Morgan and I slipped out to get these shots in the Jefferson Room.

At the end of the night, everyone gathered in the Jefferson Room for the bouquet toss. One of my favorite aspects of this room is this balcony. It’s the perfect spot for tossing the bouquet.

Michael retrieving the garter.

Got it!

The exit!

¬† Morgan and Michael: What an honor it was for John and I to be a part of your day! ¬†It’s remarkable how strong your love is for each other, and the kindness, care, and affection with which you treat each other is absolutely breathtaking. We wish you a lifetime of love and friendship.

Morgan + Michael | Charlottesville, VA

I feel like I keep coming back each week more excited than the last. Words like amazing, gorgeous, creative and fabulous¬†keep popping up in my blog posts. But here’s the thing. It’s all true. John and I have to pinch ourselves ever so often because we really get to work with some of the sweetest couples, and we get to capture their love. And today is no different, so get ready for a double dose of some of my favorite adjectives.:-)

Morgan and Michael’s wedding day was one of those perfect Charlottesville afternoons. It wasn’t too hot or humid, and just enough sun was peeking out from behind the clouds to remind us that summer had officially arrived. Before heading over to the chapel at the University of Virginia, we met up with them as they were getting ready.

When I saw Morgan’s gorgeous dress and her shoes with the clip-on puffs, I almost died.

The lovely bride, Morgan, finishing the final touches of her make-up.

At last, the dress is on. Stunning!

Dad’s reaction.:-)

Lots of buttons!

So beautiful, Morgan!

Meanwhile, John, Michael and the guys were on Grounds at the University of Virginia….

Michael and his groomsmen.

Here come the girls!

I love that Michael wore a Penn State button in honor of Morgan and that Morgan wore an Ohio State garter for Michael.:-)

Morgan and her girls.

Morgan, I know I said this already, but You. Look. Stunning.

I love this next series!

Pretty girls!

When we arrived at the chapel, Morgan’s grandfather was waiting outside for her with a big hug and kiss.

Such an emotional moment.

Morgan and her dad on their way down the aisle…

My angle of the kiss.

John’s angle.

Married!

The whole gang!

Our favorite part of the day – portraits of the bride and groom!

Love, love, love.

I always love shooting under the Rotunda because the white marble reflects light beautifully!

Morgan having a little fun with her gown…

There is much more to come from this super classy, UVA wedding on the blog tomorrow. We’ll be heading over to Farmington Country Club¬†for the reception, so stay tuned!

Deveryn + Bryce, Part Two | Charlottesville, VA

Welcome back to Part Two of Deveryn and Bryce’s adorable estate wedding in Charlottesville.¬†At the close of their gorgeous ceremony overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains, we gathered the family and the wedding party together for a few portraits with the newly weds.

While the wedding party skipped off to the cocktail hour, we stuck around with Bryce and Deveryn to get a few more portraits. We couldn’t have asked for a better setting or lovelier light. The sun was just beginning to set behind the mountains and it cast such a romantic glow.

One of my favorite shots…

I love this next series. What a view!

Deveryn and Bryce made all the signs for the wedding, including this one to use for their “thank you” notes to guests.

For the final series of photos, we wanted to incorporate the arbor again. Another handmade creation, it was the perfect destination for the shots we wanted to get. Take a look…

After portraits, we all joined back up with the guests for cocktail hour and the reception. First, John and I stopped off at the tent to get some shots of the tables and centerpieces. A huge shout out and thank you to Lindsay of LK Events and Design for doing such a fabulous job coordinating the wedding! Everything looked beautiful!

I love how Deveryn and Bryce labeled their tables using pictures of the places to where they had traveled together as a couple.

Deveryn and Bryce being introduced…

A few words from the father of the bride before dinner…

Thanks to Mill Valley Barbeques for catering some mighty tasty barbecue!

View of the yard as the sun was setting behind the mountains. Just breathtaking!

Bryce and Deveryn taking some time to visit with their guests…

Bryce and Deveryn’s first dance together.

Deveryn’s dance with her father.

Bryce’s dance with his mother.

And then everyone else joined in on the fun…

Take a look at all these homemade goodies!!

I still can’t get over this cake. So cute!

The first toasts of the night were given by Bryce’s two sisters. Boy did they know their brother!

Bryce’s mom was up next. Bryce and Deveryn started dating in high school, so there were many memories to recount.

And then Bryce’s dad shared some heartfelt words.

Deveryn tosssing her bouquet.

The catch!

Bryce retrieving the garter!

I love this shot of this guy trying to conceal his catch. Unfortunately we have photographic evidence.:-)

Deveryn and Bryce: You two already have so many memories together, but we wish you many, many more as husband and wife.  You guys are so sweet and you have a connection to each other that is something to treasure! We wish you all the best!
