Charlottesville Family Photographer | The Hansen Family

I love this time of year. It is a time of light, music, food, friends and neighbors. We have wonderful smells wafting from the kitchen, greenery draped over our mantel and a tree covered in lights and ornaments. We are preparing to travel to New York City (so excited!) to visit family for the remainder of the week, so I wanted to make sure that I posted on the blog before I left. Because family is such a central part of the holiday season, I thought it would be the perfect time to post this family session with the Hansens. We met up at Ash-Lawn Highland and had a great time with these two little munchkins.:-)

Happy Holidays to all!!

Stanardsville Wedding Photographer | Cayla + Kevin

I can hardly believe this is true, but today I offer you the final wedding from 2011. We have had such an exciting and fruitful year, but it has just flown by! But really, I can’t think of a better wedding to end with because this couple, Cayla and Kevin, have hearts of gold and a love to match. Cayla and Kevin were married at Cayla’s home church, Mountain View Methodist Church, right outside of Charlottesville, and really, they couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day.

I found this swing set right outside the church, and there was a hook just waiting for me to hang the dress. I love how the golden leaves and blue sky light up the background.

Getting ready…

Once Kevin and his groomsmen had tied the last tie and fastened the last cuff link, John took them outside for a few portraits. I’m thinking this is a pretty sharp looking group.:-)

Kevin and Cayla decided early on that they wanted to do a First Look. If you frequent our blog at all, you know that we LOVE to photograph this moment. Here are some of our favorites:

Once they were ready, we took advantage of the lovely afternoon light and ended up with this series….

The bridal party. Woot! Woot!

Cayla and her girls…

Oh my goodness. I love these two shots of Cayla with her flower girl.

Absolutely gorgeous.

By 5:00, it was time for the ceremony to begin. I love the shot on the left that John got of Cayla right before she walked down the aisle.
Husband and wife!
Directly after the ceremony, we all headed off to the reception to celebrate.
Love the purple bows!
Toasts from the maids of honor and best man…
Right after dinner, Cayla and Kevin took center stage on the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife.
This sweet baby sure had quite the crowd to love on her.:-)
And then the party started….
Cayla and Kevin: What a joy it was for John and I to document and celebrate your marriage! We hope you are enjoying spending the holidays together as a married couple – what a gift! We wish you both peace, love and grace in the New Year!

Charlottesville Senior Photographer | Hannah

Where has the year gone? As I was prepping Hannah’s images for this blog post, I realized that Hannah was the last graduate of 2011 that I photographed! What an amazing fall we had working with our senior girls! I have to say, I love working with high school seniors. I think it probably has something to do with teaching high school Spanish for five years prior to getting into photography, but I also think it’s because my senior year was such a hard year for me and I could have really benefited from a little confidence building and mentoring. I love senior sessions because I get the chance to be an encouraging voice and a listening ear, even for just a couple of hours. Without further ado, the lovely Hannah…

Oh my goodness. I love shooting on Grounds at UVa. The possibilities are just endless!

Hannah is a beautiful flautist, so of course we had to get some shots of her with her flute!

Hair light! Can you tell I’m obsessed??:-)

Charlottesville Children’s Photographer | Baby Wesley

What do you get when you combine a perfect autumn morning, a basket, a couple of blankets and the cutest four month old baby you have ever laid eyes on? Perfection I tell you. Absolute perfection.

Wesley was such a good sport as his mom and I were taking him in and out of multiple outfits, in and out of the basket and making all sorts of silly noises and faces at him. Oh the things we will do for the perfect shot.:-)

Isn’t this basket great!? If you love it too, check out your local Target!

Oh my goodness! Can I take him home? Please!?:-)

After some quality time in the basket, we let Wesley try out his tummy again.:-)

Proud momma.:-)

Doesn’t Wesley look handsome in his collared button down?:-)

I LOVE this next one in black and white!

Oh but I LOVE this one too!

And this one!

Ahhhh…I can’t choose!

Baby feet. Squeal!

This is my favorite shot of Mom and Baby.

For the last series, we put Wesley back in the basket but added a few of his favorite books along with him. So cute!

What a reader….:-)

Thank you for dropping by the blog today. I hope you got your baby fix for the week!:-)Be sure to check back next week for Hannah’s beautiful senior portrait session. Stay warm and happy December!

Thank you so much, Lori! What a blessing you and Mike have been in our lives! Thank you for your friendship and prayers. :-)

If you’ve spent any time watching television this past week, you might have noticed the influx of holiday and Black Friday commercials. Truthfully, John and I have been quite appalled at the general message of these commercials. They all seem to communicate the value of consumerism for consumption’s sake. I know that Black Friday is not a new phenomenon, but this year I’m noticing even more of a disconnect between the buying and the why. And I don’t know about you but all of the shoppers seem so much more aggressive! Last night we saw a commercial where a woman stole something out of another woman’s cart as she was gaily skipping down a department store aisle, all the while singing some catchy tune about saving money and getting all her shopping done early. Seems like we’re missing the point…

So in response to this pervasive message of  “just hurry up and get Thanksgiving over with so we can get to the Black Friday sale”, I decided to take a moment and show you a few things that I’m thankful for. That’s right. I am not going to type another word. I have pulled some images from this past year to show you some things and people I am thankful for. I’m hoping that it inspires you to slow down, tune out the media and do the same.:-)

Happy Thanksgiving y gracias a la vida!
