Charlottesville Family Session | The Reardon Family

A few weeks back John and I were in Charlottesville for a wedding, but we also managed to meet up with the Reardon family for their annual family session. One of my favorite parts of my job is being able to maintain relationships with the couples and families that I work with and being able to watch their families blossom and grow. When I first met up with the Reardons Tanner had just turned two. This year Tanner turned four and he is about to be a big brother here in just a few short months.

Tanner, I know you are going to be the BEST big brother!

So excited that the newest addition to the Reardon family is due to arrive this July!

Love this kid!

At one point along the trail I told Tanner that his shadow was following him.:)I love this moment as he turns around to verify.

I love the sweetness between Tanner and his mom.

And the bond between father and son!

Exploring the woods…

Cute patutie!

Playing hide and seek along the trail.

It’s been so fun to watch Tanner grow up. He is such a sweet boy. I can only imagine how proud you must be. I’m so excited for your newest addition in July and hopefully we can coordinate something again next spring!

Beyond Ballerinas | Facing Fears Workshop

A few weekends ago a group of young dancers came together at San Elijo Dance and Music Academy to attend another Beyond Ballerinas workshop about facing fears as a dancer, in and out of the studio. As a dancer who struggled so much with body image, perfectionism, lack of self-confidence and disordered eating, I was encouraged and honored to join long time friends, Alyssa and France-Marie, as they led this workshop and provided a safe space for the dancers and their parents to talk about these issues that are so common among ballet dancers.

For the dancers, the afternoon began with two master classes.

BB-1BB-2BB-3BB-4BB-7BB-8BB-9BB-11During the break the girls got to snack on cupcakes from Frosting Fanatic (they were as delicious as they were beautiful) and do a little shopping for a new BB skirt and bows and turbans from Alice and Ivory. So fun!

Then it was time for them to put on their tutus and strike a pose for the camera!

Ya’ll are beautiful and should be so proud of yourselves for coming out and doing the hard work of facing your fears. Can’t wait for the next workshop!!

Encinitas Maternity Session | Mika + Hunter

Wow! I can’t believe it’s been a full three months since my last blog post. Time really does fly when you’re a mom. Yes, on December 25, 2013 we welcomed our sweet baby girl, Annie Reese, to the world. She weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces and measured 19.5 inches long. She is an absolute love and we couldn’t be happier!

And because our house is filled to the brim with all things baby, I thought what better way to get things going again on the blog than with this sweet maternity session with Mika and Hunter. Only a few more months before they welcome this sweet baby girl to their family.

Encinitas Family Session | The Kims

The holidays are officially here in all their glory, and what better way to celebrate the coming of Christmas than with a beautiful family portrait session? I met up with the Kim family a few weeks ago and had a blast shooting a few photos for their Christmas card this year and capturing some memories of their three sweet kids run around the yard, taking turns swinging each other on the hammock and tossing freshly fallen leaves high up into the air.

But before we let the kids run wild, here are a few of my favorites that I shot on the front stoop.

Jonah, the youngest, was the master at making great faces. I love how he got the greatest laughs out of his siblings and parents.

Such a beautiful family, inside and out!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Thanks so much, Natalie for these great photos! We had such a great time!!

Encinitas Engagement Session | Cassandra + Ryan

Photographing in California with a very sweet couple always makes taking photos more fun. I mean how many places offer you 70 degree days the weekend before Thanksgiving?! This session was extra special for me because I’ve known Cassie since she was five. She is the younger sister of one of my very good ballet friends, and I still have memories of her bouncing around the house as we “big girls” put on crazy ballet productions, fashion shows and the like. Now she is all grown up and getting married!!

It was a beautiful day for exploring all the nooks and crannies of this private garden. I’m not sure what this purple flower is, but I love it!!

After a quick outfit change and relocation we stumbled upon this small clearing at the Encinitas Ranch Golf Course. I wasn’t sure what the lighting would be like at high noon, but I was pleasantly surprised!

Cassie and Ryan: Thank you for being so wonderful to work with! I’m bummed that I won’t be able to be there for the wedding, but I’m so glad we had this opportunity to hang out.   I’m so excited for you both and for you to begin your married life together in just a little over a month!
