Charlottesville Senior Photographer | Tyler

I love summer. I love the lazy days, the fireflies, eating ice cream on the back porch, trips to the pool, the late afternoon showers. I also love summer because it’s when I start getting calls and emails from high school seniors looking to set up a time for me to take their senior portraits. I am especially excited when the call or email happens to come from one of my former students.:)

Meet Tyler. I taught her as a sophomore and now she is going to be a senior! Where does the time go? We met at the Ivy Creek Natural Area right as the sun was setting. It was the perfect evening and setting for her bohemian chic style.

So gorgeous, Tyler!

I love Tyler’s sense of style. I keep thinking Free People meets Anthropologie.

Loving this series in the field…

Tyler: It was so nice to hang out with you one last time! I will never forget our time together in Spanish 3. You never know – Spanish just might make its way into your life again. ūüėČ Enjoy the rest of your summer, and I hope you have a fabulous senior year!

Charlottesville Wedding Photographer | Shawna + William

After yesterday’s sneak peek of the bride, Shawna, I am more than ready to walk you through their lovely wedding day! You’ll probably recognize the venue, Canterbury Farm, from Shawna’s bridal session. It was looking as beautiful as ever with all of the flowers and ceremony decorations, and with 360 degree views of the mountains and a warm, sun-filled, spring day, we were ready to move in!

The gorgeous Shawna…

…and her best girls!

A giddy bride + freshly cut flowers = PERFECTION!

Loving the groom’s coordinating tie! Such a fresh color, perfect for a spring wedding.

Check out this awesome venue!

Love this shot of Shawna and her dad right before walking down the aisle.

It’s official!

We had such a great time with these two. The sun was starting to set and we had this gorgeous property all to ourselves!

A few of my favorites from the reception…a big thanks to Chandler’s Bakery for the awesome wedding cake and to Randall at The Flower Shop for the gorgeous flowers!

Shawna and Willie: You two are wonderful, sweet, fabulous and fun! It was obvious to both John and I throughout the night how absolutely perfect you are for each other. We have no doubt that you will continue to support, care, love, smile and laugh with each other for years and years to come! We wish you all the best!

Un abrazo fuerte,

Carolyn (Bride's Mom) - July 3, 2012 - 5:12 pm

Natalie and John – you guys were so wonderful to work with. I love that the 2 of you complement each other with so much going on that could be distracting.

I love, too, that Willie and Shawna will have such perfectly photographed memories of their wonderful day!

Thank you!

Charlottesville Bridal Portraits | Shawna

Two months is a long time to wait. I know it might not sound like a long time, but when it comes to sharing (or in this case, not sharing!) some of my favorite images of the lovely Shawna, two ¬†months is like torture! But I made myself pinky swear not to post any of the photos until after the wedding. Well, the long awaited day has finally arrived! Tomorrow I will be featuring Shawna and William’s wedding on the blog, but today we’re going to start out with a sneak peek of the gorgeous bride!

Shawna wanted her bridal portraits taken at Canterbury Farm, the same place where she would marry her best friend a month later. I can’t tell you how much I love this farm. It just has this fabulous rustic, romantic aura about it.

Gorgeous girl!

Love this shot of Shawna with her sweet little boy, Riley.

Make sure to check back tomorrow to see some of our favorites from the wedding day! And because I know how hard it is to wait, here’s a teaser to hold you over.:-)

Have a great week!

Un abrazo fuerte,

San Diego Wedding Photographer | Juliana + Kyle, Part Two

I’m so excited to welcome everyone back to Part Two of Juliana and Kyle’s bright, romantic, modern meets vintage wedding at Scripps Seaside Forum! I have a soft spot in my heart reserved for the pinky peach hues, so when I saw these centerpieces by Sally at¬†Exquisite Blooms, I just about melted into a swooning puddle of mush.

When it comes to photographing weddings, especially the receptions, I love when the bride and groom infuse personal touches into the decor. I love that Juliana and Kyle’s tables were decorated with pictures of them growing up and silver vases collected from our house and from friends and family. A huge shout out to my mom and to Elisa at Events by Elisa¬†for pulling it all together!

Notice the books? They are all from my grandfather’s collection of classics.

Thyme in the Ranch charmed our socks off with these beauties.

Meanwhile, back outside, Juliana, Kyle and I were taking advantage of the warm, California light.

I typically don’t pair black and white with color images, but I kinda liked how these two looked together.

We all fell in love with this blue wall!

Heading back to the cocktail hour…

These girls have been friends since 1st grade!

A few more of the newly weds…

Guests making their way into the reception…

Kyle and Juliana’s first dance.
During dinner we grabbed Juliana and Kyle and ran down to the beach to take advantage of the last bit of light. I can’t tell you how much I love this series!
When we got back it was time for toasts. Kyle’s best friend and best man (who flew all the way from Australia, might I add) started us off.
Then it was my turn. I don’t know why I even bothered bringing up my notes. I never looked at them, nor did I follow a single word I was planning to say.:)
And then it was my dad’s turn. He had a little Wayne Novak dance break built into his toast.:)
My dad ended his toast by asking my sister to dance.:)
Kyle and his mom. So, so sweet.
And then it was party time!
I love how this shot of the venue turned out!
Even the Kappa girls had a special dance for the newlyweds.
Clearly, Kyle looks thrilled.
Juliana and Kyle: I love you both so much! John and I were honored to be their by your sides and behind the lens, capturing the big moments, the small moments and the beauty, joy and love in the in-between. We wish you every blessing, and we can’t wait to share life with you. Here’s to many, many more double dates.:)
Un abrazo fuerte,

San Diego Wedding Photographer | Juliana + Kyle

Let me begin with a small disclaimer about this wedding: I am completely biased. I admit it, but because this is my one and only sister we’re talking about, I’m letting myself off the hook, just this once. You are in for a real treat because this wedding is drop. dead. gorgeous. (and so is the bride), but bear with me because you’re probably going to see an obnoxious amount of THIS, this and this.:)

One of the first things that stood out to me as I was first getting to know Juliana and Kyle as a couple is that they both wear their hearts on their sleeves. I love that there are no pretenses with them. There’s no guess work. There are no secrets. Both of them are raw and real with their emotions, and pretty much what you see is what you get.

Kyle is patient and true. He has a heart the size of the Grand Canyon and, time after time, I see him putting the needs of others in front of his own. Juliana is warmth and compassion. She’s a ball of fire, she’s a gust of ocean wind. She rejoices with you when you are rejoicing, she weeps with you when you are weeping. Together they will be unstoppable and a force for good in the world.

Since the wedding, many have asked who did the photography. Well, seeing that I’m the one writing the blog post, I think you know the answer to that question. And, yes, in case you’re wondering, the typical response I do get is one of disbelief (insert lots of head scratching, jaws dropping, and eyes widening), but I know that I know that I know that¬†I was supposed to photograph my sister’s wedding. Yes, there were a whole new set of challenges. Oh, like, shooting in heels and a dress that didn’t allow me to take longer than 4 inch strides, determining if I can carry a bouquet and camera at the same time, and knowing my own limitations. Speaking of limitations…I never could have single-handedly done this. Thank the sweet Lord in heaven for my amazing husband who was by my side the whole day and did a lion’s share of the shooting.

But enough from me now….enjoy the wedding. It was truly magical.

Juliana and her girls started off the day getting ready at La Valencia Hotel in downtown La Jolla.

Flora and Aurora with Flora Wade did an amazing job with everyone’s hair and make-up.

The bride enjoying her view of La Jolla from the balcony.

¬†A little bling…

Each one of the bridesmaids received one of these sweet Encinitas bags. Love the hometown touches!

When Juliana tried this dress on at M Bride in La Jolla, we all knew it was the one.

Father of the bride. Love you, dad.:)

Sigh…..Ju, you know you’re stunning, right!?

Fabulous? Check.

Downstairs, John was positioned just right to catch the guys making their way over to the hotel.

Kyle, you look so darn handsome!!

And the dress is on…

Team Juliana! (minus the one behind the camera)

I love that Juliana and Kyle opted to do a First Look.

We had Kyle close his eyes and promise not to peek.:)

LOVE these two! What did I tell you? Heart on sleeve.

I just love how the ocean breeze kept picking up Juliana’s dress.

Love this next series…

Thank you to Exquisite Blooms for these gorgeous peonies. They truly are exquisite!

Once we arrived at Scripps Seaside Forum, we had a little bit more time for pictures before the ceremony began.

Nice work, girls.

Hats off to John for all of the ceremony detail shots!

Not a bad view.

Officially official!!!

Make sure to check back tomorrow for Part Two of Juliana and Kyle’s stunning, seaside wedding. There will be romance, laughter, style and, of course, cake, flowers and fun! Guaranteed to brighten your day and, hey, maybe even your week.:-)

Un abrazo fuerte,

As I was taking a quick Facebook break at work (shhh! don’t tell!), I saw that you had posted some photos from Kyle & Juliana’s wedding, Natalie. So of course I hurried up over to the blog. I had no doubt the pictures were going to be awesome, but WOW! They are AMAZING! Beautiful, beautiful job!! I was so honored to be a part of the Rehrigs’ special day, and I’m so glad to have these beautiful pictures to remember it by.

Kyle & Juliana - June 25, 2012 - 10:52 pm
