If you’ve spent any time watching television this past week, you might have noticed the influx of holiday and Black Friday commercials. Truthfully, John and I have been quite appalled at the general message of these commercials. They all seem to communicate the value of consumerism for consumption’s sake. I know that Black Friday is not a new phenomenon, but this year I’m noticing even more of a disconnect between the buying and the why. And I don’t know about you but all of the shoppers seem so much more aggressive! Last night we saw a commercial where a woman stole something out of another woman’s cart as she was gaily skipping down a department store aisle, all the while singing some catchy tune about saving money and getting all her shopping done early. Seems like we’re missing the point…
So in response to this pervasive message of “just hurry up and get Thanksgiving over with so we can get to the Black Friday sale”, I decided to take a moment and show you a few things that I’m thankful for. That’s right. I am not going to type another word. I have pulled some images from this past year to show you some things and people I am thankful for. I’m hoping that it inspires you to slow down, tune out the media and do the same.
Happy Thanksgiving y gracias a la vida!
