A few weekends ago a group of young dancers came together at San Elijo Dance and Music Academy to attend another Beyond Ballerinas workshop about facing fears as a dancer, in and out of the studio. As a dancer who struggled so much with body image, perfectionism, lack of self-confidence and disordered eating, I was encouraged and honored to join long time friends, Alyssa and France-Marie, as they led this workshop and provided a safe space for the dancers and their parents to talk about these issues that are so common among ballet dancers.
For the dancers, the afternoon began with two master classes.
During the break the girls got to snack on cupcakes from Frosting Fanatic (they were as delicious as they were beautiful) and do a little shopping for a new BB skirt and bows and turbans from Alice and Ivory. So fun!
Then it was time for them to put on their tutus and strike a pose for the camera!
Ya’ll are beautiful and should be so proud of yourselves for coming out and doing the hard work of facing your fears. Can’t wait for the next workshop!!
Un abrazo fuerte,
